Struggling With Back Pain After An Injury? Alternative Treatments To Know

Posted on

If you have recently injured yourself and begun to experience back pain as a result, you may find yourself wondering what you can and should do about the situation. Conventional medical practices usually involve prescribing pain medications to help deal with these issues. But this does not necessarily address the source of the pain you are experiencing. Additionally, you may not want to take pain medications because of the potential side effects. The good news is that there are alternative treatment options to help you manage your post-injury back pain. Get to know some of these options and give them a try as soon as possible.

Chiropractic Care

When you experience an injury that affects your back, your spine may be knocked out of alignment. If the spine is knocked out of alignment, numerous issues can occur. The nerves along the spine that send signals to and from the brain can be blocked or pinched, making it difficult if not impossible for them to function. Pinched nerves can be quite painful and could be responsible for your residual back pain after your injury.

Chiropractic care can help to remedy those issues. A chiropractor is an expert in the musculoskeletal system, and they are trained to find spinal misalignments. If your spine is found to be out of alignment, the chiropractor will perform spinal manipulations to get the vertebrae back into their proper alignment. This can help to relieve pressure and pain in your back almost immediately.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is another alternative medicine treatment that can help you with your back pain. While chiropractic care focuses primarily on the alignment of the spine and skeleton, massage therapy focuses on the muscles of the body. Specifically, massage therapy looks for areas of undue muscle tension and knots.

The idea is that when a person is experiencing pain or discomfort, muscle tension may be at least partially to blame. Either the muscle tension is causing the pain, or the pain has led to the development of muscle tension, which can worsen that pain. A massage therapist uses manual manipulations to find the areas of muscle tension and knots. They then use pressure techniques as well as stroking motions to get rid of those areas of muscle tension.

When the muscles are able to relax, the pain you experience will subside if not go away entirely for a time. And when used in combination with other treatments like chiropractic care, massage therapy can be a highly effective addition to the back pain management process.

Knowing these alternative treatments for your back pain, you can give them a try as soon as possible.
