How To Massage The Buttocks & Back To Alleviate Back Pain

Posted on

Many of muscles in the back are connected to the nerves in your lower back and buttocks. Massaging these parts can alleviate back pain and give a certain amount of relief from aches and pains. Massage can also help a person reach a point of deep relaxation and help them alleviate stress, which can also be a contributing factor to back pain. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to massage the lower back and buttocks.

1 - Start by directing your client to remove their clothing and provide them with a towel or sheet to cover themselves with.  When performing the massage, only uncover the body part that you will be working with for the dignity of your client.

2 - Have your client lay down on a flat surface, such as the floor or a sturdy massage table. A massage table will give you the best results as the table is constructed with the intent that you will be using the table to apply pressure in a deep massage.

3 - Apply some massage oil to your hands and rub them together to lubricate them before touching the back. You can purchase a scented oil if you prefer the smell to give off a pleasant aroma in the air while being massaged.

4 - Begin to spread the oil around the back and the area around the buttocks until the entire area is covered in oil. Starting at the bottom of the back with your hands partially cupped, maneuver your hands throughout the back in a kneading motion as if you are rolling the skin and apply deep pressure as it rolls over your fingertips.

5 - Spend a good solid ten to fifteen seconds on each area applying pressure on areas that are sore. Make sure that you go from the top of the back to the bottom of the buttocks and cover every area of skin with the kneading motion to alleviate any tightness or pressure.

If you follow the tips outlined above and your client still has back pain then you should immediately consult with a professional chiropractor. A chiropractor has the knowledge of the back muscles and nerves to pinpoint exactly what is causing the pain. They can also crack the spine and put it back into alignment if necessary without causing any damage to you. A chiropractor by Temple Crossing Chiropractic & Massage should also be the only one that performs any work on the spine or bones in the back.
